We recognize that financial literacy is an issue and hot topic as we provide financial planning to our clients. We know it is beneficial to learn about finances early and to continue to build financial knowledge to foster financial responsibility by adulthood.

In 2023, the State of Michigan legislated teaching financial literacy in the schools, and the Department of Education began this process in 2024 with middle school students. Our chapter sought to partner with the Department of Education and found that while they have selected a curriculum partner, the delivery of financial literacy is competing with other coursework realities for students. Nonetheless, we are committed to having resources available to our FPA of Michigan members that they can take into a classroom for a one hour presentation that provides an introduction to financial literacy.

We have two presentations available, designed for both middle and high school students. The resources include a PowerPoint and presenter notes (with slides and suggested script), which can be enhanced with your own stories or anecdotes to tailor the content as needed. The presentation is interactive, featuring an exercise that encourages class participation. Additional resources include a drafted marketing letter to teachers.

For current FPA of Michigan members who wish to access the presentation resources, please complete this request form. After you have completed your presentation(s), you will be asked to complete a follow up survey that will give us important data needed to make updates or changes that would be beneficial to strengthing the presentations and the overall program!

If you have any questions, please contact Mary Medonis, FPA of Michigan Chapter Executive at info@fpami.com, or Sarah Caruana, FPA of Michigan Chapter Administrator at sarah@fpami.com.

Thanks in advance for your commitment to helping our children build financial literacy skills.
