FAQ: MEMBERSHIP DUES INCREASE
How much is the dues increase?
Effective March 1, we are implementing a modest 5% increase in membership fees. Depending on your national membership category, the annual increase ranges from just $3 to $19. As a CFP® professional member, your yearly dues will be $394 – only a $19 increase, equivalent to just $1.58 monthly. This slight adjustment ensures continued access to the numerous valuable benefits of your national FPA membership.
When will this increase go into effect?
This goes into effect March 1 for new Members joining the association. Existing Members will be notified during their renewal periods throughout the year, beginning with those who are due to renew in March.
Why is the Association implementing this increase now?
This decision was rooted in our dedication to providing you with the highest quality services, resources, and opportunities. This modest increase reflects the current and increased costs of servicing members as we strive to be responsive to the needs of our Members and deliver first-in-class benefits to support your success. Meeting and exceeding your evolving needs are and will remain our priority.
How was this decision made, and who made it?
After careful consideration and in response to the evolving needs of our community, the FPA Board of Directors approved this 5% increase. This decision was not made lightly, and we want to assure you that it reflects our commitment to enhancing your value in your national FPA membership.
What will the dues increase go towards? What will the Association do with these additional funds?
The FPA Board of Directors has finalized a bold vision for the Association by adopting a long-term strategic plan to further position FPA as a valued partner in planning for you and all Members. This includes building new educational programs to support your professional development, enhancing networking events to connect you with your professional community, improving digital platforms to make connecting easier, and supporting advocacy efforts to support your standing as a financial planner.
What is the value of membership? What am I getting for my investment?
All members join FPA for different reasons. Some join to access the many educational programs the Association provides. Others may join for a closer connection to a community of professionals who understand what you are trying to do – and be – as a financial planner. However you define value, you can find it in FPA. For example:
- Suppose you value the latest in financial planner education. In that case, FPA offers a robust slate of learning programs through our online learning center.
- If you value enhanced visibility, we offer FPA MediaSource, which allows you to be featured in news articles nationwide.
- If you value discounts on services and products that power your business, FPA provides access to a marketplace with sizable discounts on everything from fintech to marketing to business and health insurance.
- Suppose you value giving back to your community. In that case, FPA offers many national and local opportunities to provide underserved communities with pro bono financial planning.
Regardless of how you define "value," FPA is your partner in planning and is committed to meeting your unique needs and priorities.
How does this increase impact the dues I pay to my local FPA chapter?
National FPA dues differ from those you pay to your local FPA chapter. Chapters set their own dues amount each year, and, like FPA, your local chapter works hard to bring outstanding value to your membership investment.
