Chapter Meeting Topics & Speakers

Part I - Safeguarding Financial Data: Essential Cybersecurity Practices for Financial Advisors

Steven Ryder I Visory, Inc.
1 CFP, CPA, CIMA CE

It is easy to become overwhelmed with the number of data breaches that continue to dominate the news and wondering how we can possibly protect ourselves. If large organizations cannot prevent a breach, how can a smaller company possibly prevent one. However, with each breach we can learn and understand how they happened and no matter the size of a company, some simple affordable measures can be deployed to reduce the likelihood of a cyber event. This session will review how some common breaches happen, consequences as a result and steps participants can put in place to better protect their organization.

Part II - Understanding Client Money Behaviors

Emily Millsap, CFP®, CExP(TM), Manager, Financial Planning I Avantax
1 CFP, CPA, CIMA CE

As much as we try to make financial decisions about math and logic, our decisions are deeply rooted in emotions, culture, and family history. In this session, we will take a deep dive into how money beliefs are passed down through the generations and how we can help our clients undo bad behavior and strengthen positive ones. We play a critical role in helping our clients build new money stories for future generations. Throughout this session Emily will give an overview of 1) Client attitudes and values, and how they affect wealth management and monetary decisions; 2) Basics of behavioral finance; and 3) Principles of communicating with clients.
