About the Presentation:  Get a better understanding of the impacts of domestic and foreign economic policies on retirement planning, investment decision making and global financial institutions both at a corporate and a sovereign level.

About the Speaker:  Eric Shimp – Vice President – International Government Relations at Principal Financial Group

Eric manages international government affairs for Principal Financial Group, advising the company’s global asset management and pension businesses on a range of geopolitical risk and regulatory issues. Eric coordinates the company’s advocacy before foreign governments and international organizations on issues such as pension reform, financial inclusion and the development of ESG-related regulatory policy. 

He has advised sovereign governments on trade negotiations, and foreign and economic policy issues, counseled corporations and financial institutions on geopolitical risk, cross-border trade, investment and sanctions issues, and represented clients before the U.S. government and Congress, as well as before governments in the European Union, East Asia and the Middle East. 

Eric has a B.A. in International Relations from Drake University and an M.A. in International Affairs from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University. His languages are Mandarin Chinese and French.
